This weekend saw the first Chevron mixed team to enter tour since 2002 when one was sent to Hawaii and finished 16th at WUCC...
Game 1 vs Rampant X... sorry BOOM! Before the game we did the formalities of; Whats your name? What position do you like to play? What number are you? We then went on to play 2nd seeds - we also went 6-2 up with some intense D play and safe offence. We then started to falter a little and BOOM applied pressure. I think the fact we were still learning names cost us the game which finished 15-10 (i think)
Game 2 vs Brighton1 We went into this game a little bit more heads up and wary of the opposition, we played solid ultimate and got the blocks we needed and the scores required to make it feel more comfortable than it actually was. We also played an extra 25 minutes becasue no one told us the game has ended. Game finished 14-12 or maybe 14-10??
Game 3 vs Leeds We had to win this to assure us of a late start tomorrow and a semi final. It was a strange game that seemed to pass both team by for the first half as we traded when we knew we shouldn't be. The game was there to be taken and we just needed to realise that. After half which we took 8-6 we traded a couple more and then we got blocks and scores - can't really tell you much I was in the first aid station....
Semi vs If Only For this game we lost three men - 1 to being bitch whipped and 2 to injury so we went in with 5 men but a shed load of women. The game was extremely tight we traded up until 10-10 and then they traded up until the cap. at 12-12 (game to 14) we had an opportunity to take the lead once again but Lars pulled out a solid D to regain possesion from their they took the opportunities to win 14-12. We played amazingly well and were extremely unlucky not to get into the final - in true Chevron fashion!!
3-4 vs Ping Will keep this review short and sweet - we traded, they went 12-9 up with a game to 14 and we won it in sudden death... YEAH CHEVRON!!! The girls won us this game with lots and lots of D's.. Also special mention to CB who had stormer and was hitting the endzone from everywhere on the pitch!
So in our first outing we came THIRD - not bad for a team which CB still doesn't know all the names of!! I think Shorty summed us up pretty well with the desciption of the team ethos: "Very relaxed atmosphere but really competitive ultimate" lets take that into Tour 2 (details to follow soon) where we can take the trophy home!!
Congrats to Dav and Johanna the MVPs for the weekend
